Bank Employees Wage Revision - UFBU Meeting 12.12.2018

Bank Employees Wage Revision
UFBU Meeting 12.12.2018

In today's UFBU meeting the discussion revolved around two issues:

A) The issue of extending fraternal support by UFBU constituents to AIBOC on 21st December'18.

B) The view of all constituents on the decision of AIBOC of not taking part in further talks, and also to seek opinion of each affiliate whether they would be taking part in talks should IBA convene any meeting.

On the first issue, there was no unanimity amongst constituents, hence, UFBU Convenor left the decision to individual affiliates.

We are happy to share that some affiliates openly expressed their support and also agreed to join the Dharna at Delhi scheduled on 14th December'18

AIBOC also categorically stated that in future we will also take a call on extending fraternal support, should any affiliate call for a strike or announce any agitational program.

On the second issue, all other affiliates expressed that they would be joining future talks.

UFBU Convenor, requested AIBOC to reconsider the decision of not taking part in further talks.

During the deliberation, AIBOC clarified it's position that we are firm and resolute in our stand of going ahead with the strike and not taking part in further talks unless the mandate issue was settled.

We also expressed that after assessing the impact of our strike, we will take stock, discuss with all our affiliates and chalk out our future course of action.
General Secretary.

Section of bank employees threaten nation-wide strike on Feb 7

Section of bank employees threaten nation-wide strike on Feb 7

New Delhi: A section of bank trade unions have threatened to go on a day-long nation-wide strike on February 7 to press various demands including complete removal of restrictions imposed during demonetisation period and safeguarding the autonomy of the Reserve Bank of India.

"It was expected that the government and the RBI would take necessary steps to mitigate the problems faced by the banks and the public but even now, we find that there is acute shortage of cash supply to the banks with the result that branches are not able to honour even the restricted payment of Rs 24,000/100,000 per week," AIBEA General Secretary C H Venkatachalam said.

Apart from All India Bank Employees’ Association( AIBEA), other unions which will be part of the strike are All India Bank Officers’ Association (AIBOA) and Bank Employees Federation of India.
Unions are also demanding publishing names of individuals who have defaulted in paying loans of Rs 1 crore and above so that stringent measures could be taken to recover bad loans.

Other demands of banks include ensuring autonomy of RBI in cash management, compensation to family of general public, bank customers and bank staff who lost their lives in the demonetisation aftermath and payment of overtime to employees and officers for their additional effort during the 50-day demonetisation period.

He added that the government is interfering by appointing officials to monitor cash management which is affecting the autonomy of RBI. Cash management falls under the sole jurisdiction of RBI, he said.
"Humiliated" by the events since demonetisation, even RBI employees had written to Governor Urjit Patel protesting the operational "mismanagement" of the note ban exercise and the government impinging the apex bank’s autonomy.

In a letter, the employees said that the autonomy and image of RBI has been "dented beyond repair" due to mismanagement and termed the appointment of a senior Finance Ministry official for currency coordination as a "blatant encroachment" of the RBI's exclusive turf.

State Bank of India will grant special leave of two days to its employees

State Bank to grant two-day special leave to employees

State Bank of India will grant special leave of two days to its employees as reward for having taken additional stress since November 8 when demonetisation was announced.

Employees would be able to avail this leave any time until March 2018, said SBI Chairman Arundhati Bhattacharya in Mumbai on Wednesday.

"Our employees will get rewarded, I am sure. We are looking into what can be done. We have already given overtime wherever it is due."

On the issue of new currency notes being diverted by some bank employees, Bhattacharya clarified that in any system there would be a few bad examples.

She observed that such incidents of Rs.100-200 crore being diverted to a select few had created doubts in the minds of people. The banking sector had dispensed Rs.7 lakh crore worth of money in the system during this period. But those who are guilty of such malpractices will be dealt in accordance with law, she said.

Bankers have been going about their job silently and without being given credit for implementing such a challenging task, she said.

They had been putting in late hours and many could not go home in the initial few days, she said.
The SBI chief said that there were checks and balances in place but if checks were tightened further, banks would not be able to serve their customers.

SBI was using analytics to ascertain the number of notes received by the bank versus the number issued to customers, besides reporting suspicious transactions on a daily basis, Bhattacharya said.

Bank employees to observe one-day strike on July 29

Chennai: Public and private sector bank employees have decided to observe a day-long strike on July 29 to oppose the “anti-people” banking reform policies of the Centre, AIBEA said today.

The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) consisting of nine trade unions across the country representing 10 lakh bank employees and officers would observe the strike.

They are pressing for various demands including not to privatise public sector banks and increase private capital in such banks, and also protesting against FDI in banking sector.

Besides, the unions oppose move to privatise regional rural banks, co-operative banks, consolidate and merging banks among others, All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) General Secretary C H Venkatachalam said in a statement.

The decision to go on strike was taken at the meeting here organised by UFBU.

3,40,000 Bank Employees Go on a Strike on January 8

Around 340,000 bank employees across the country would strike work on January 8 to protest the violation of bilateral settlement by the five associate banks of the State Bank of India (SBI), a top leader of All India Bank Employees’ Association (AIBEA) said.

3,40,000 Bank Employees Go on a Strike on January 8 – The five associate banks of the SBI are State Bank of Mysore, State Bank of Patiala, State Bank of Hyderabad and State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur.
Chennai – Around 340,000 bank employees across the country would strike work on January 8 to protest the violation of bilateral settlement by the five associate banks of the State Bank of India (SBI), a top leader of All India Bank Employees’ Association (AIBEA) said here.

The five associate banks of the SBI are State Bank of Mysore, State Bank of Patiala, State Bank of Hyderabad and State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur.

“Nearly 340,000 bankers would strike work on January 8. The strike is to protest against the violation of bilateral settlement by the five associate banks of SBI and their attempt to force unilateral service conditions on employees,” CH Venkatachalam, AIBEA general secretary, told IANS here on Monday.

According to him, it is the AIBEA that has given the strike call.

Explaining the rationale behind the strike call, Venkatachalam said the service conditions in the SBI are different and based on the agreement between the SBI management and the employees’ union.

On the other hand, the service conditions of the five SBI associate banks are common with those of other banks.

“In May 2015, a common settlement was signed between Indian Banks’ Association (IBA-management body) and All India Bank Employees’ Association (AIBEA) which defined the duties and remuneration of the employees for undertaking various jobs in the banks,” Venkatachalam said.

He said the five SBI associate banks are parties to the settlement and hence governed by the settlement terms.

“But the managements of the five associate banks are implementing the service conditions of the SBI, which is illegal and violation of the settlement,” he said.

Asked why the strike has been called early in the year, he said the union had deferred the strike call given for December 1 and 2, 2015, on the intervention of deputy chief labour commissioner, Delhi.

“The bank management is forcing its rules without any discussion with the unions from the New Year onwards and hence we are forced to respond,” Venkatachalam said.

10th Bank Wage Settlement Stagnation Increment - Clarification

10th Bank Wage Settlement Stagnation Increment - Clarification

IBA  carries out amendment regarding stagnation increment in Clause 40 of Bank Wage Settlement dated 25.05.2015

IBA clarifies on Stagnation Increment under 10th Bank Wage Settlement for Bank Employees

Indian Bank’s Association
HR & Industrial Relations

No. CIR/HR&IR/XBPS/KU/919
June 16, 2015

Designation Officers of Banks which are parties to the 10th Bipartite Settlement/Workmen Union dated 25.5.2016

Dear Sir,

Stagnation Increment

Under the recently signed 10th Bipartite Settlement, it has been agreed that employees shall be eligible for 8th stagnation increment on 1st May, 2015 or two years after receiving stagnation increment, whichever is later.

It has been further agreed that the period of 3 years shall be reduced to 2 years for sanction of 6th stagnation increment.  Accordingly it has bee provided in the Settlement that an employee who has completed two years or more after receiving the fifth stagnation increment as on 1st November, 2012 shall receive the sixth stagnation increment as on 1st November, 2012.

In this connection, we advise that the financial benefit on account of this reduction of eligibility from 3 to 2 years for sanction of the 6th stagnation increment shall accrue on or after 1.5.2015 since the additional cost of such reduction in periodicity from 3 to 2 years has been adjusted at 50% of the actual cost and hence to be effective from 1.5.2015 (30 months out of 60 months of the period of the Settlement).

However under clause 40 of the settlement dated 25.5.2015 in ‘Implementation’ it has inadvertently mentioned as under:-

Stagnation Increment – 8th     1st May, 2015

In view of the adjustment of cost as 50% of the total cost towards improvements in stagnation increment/s this needs to be corrected and read as under:
3     Stagnation Increment improvements (5th to 6th & 7th to 8th Stagnation increment)     1st May, 2015

Member banks may kindly take a note of the above.

Yours faithfully,
K. Unnikrishnan
 Dy. Chief Executive

Bank Employees Announce Strike on 24.6.2015

Bank Employees Announce Strike on 24.6.2015

The Public Sector Bank Employees Union has proposed a one-day strike on the 24th of this month, demanding the fulfillment of their various demands. The All India Bank Employees Union has expressed its support for the strike.

Since State Bank of India and all its other associate banks, including the State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur, the State Bank of Travancore, and the State Bank of Hyderabad, come under the Public Sector Bank Employees Union, the one-day strike is very likely to cripple money transactions on the day of the protests.

Demands:
  • De-link Associate Banks from SBI
  • Do not curb trade union right of representation
  • Vacate attacks on trade union in SBBJ
  • Extend compassionate appointment scheme as per Government guidelines.
  • Increase quantum of staff housing loan.
  • Recruitment of sub staff and part time employees
  • Resolve pending demands
  • Do not impose SBI service condition and career progression in Associate Banks
